Our Experience of Cooking Thai Food with Basil Cookery School in Chiang Mai

Published Jan 05, 2013 - 3 Comments

We have just got back from the Basil Cookery School and we are so excited about this experience! We went to the morning classes from 9:00 to 15:00. We were picked up at our residence, which is so convenient! We started from the local market, where the tutor told us about every vegetable and herb, about fruit, fish, spices etc. This was really useful because we didn’t know much about Thai vegetables and herbs. After we headed towards the school.

There were 8 of us in all. We had to prepare 7 dishes and eat them immediately after! The tutors of the school are wonderful; very friendly and professional. At the end of the day we were awarded a certificate and a very helpful cookbook. It was an amazing experience for us not just to learn how to cook Thai food, but to meet all those great people who came from all around the world! Each of us had a different story to share, each of us came from a different country, but all of us have something that can unite a group of people with different backgrounds – it really is a joy to travel!

If you are in Chiang Mai and looking for classes of Thai Cuisine, I highly recommend Basil Cookery School!

Alyona, I’m searching for Thai food in Malta as we speak! 😛 However, I’m sure nothing will be as good as this 🙂 Great video and photos! Keep on posting your wonderful adventures! 🙂

Thanks, Gabriella! It’s true, the real Thai food is only in Thailand. Though now I would like try out the “Blue Elephant”, just to compare, as everybody says it’s a great Thai restaurant in Malta 🙂

    Hi Gabriella,

To cook most Thai foods, you need to go to a shop in Gzira. I beleive it’s conveniently called Asian Food Store. You need to go towards the San Gwann roundabout (the big one with lot’s of Palm trees and crazy traffic then turn right towards gzira if coming from Valletta – You are now in Triq Tas Sliema. Go into the third right road called Triq Nazju Ellul. If I remember correctly the shop will be on your left first or second corner. The shop is a corner shop.
