Best Alternative Tour Websites

Published Feb 18, 2014 - 8 Comments

Are you like us and don’t particularly fancy following the masses on those bus tours that every travel agent will try to sell to you when you visit a new destination?

Turns out there are websites that specialize in alternative tours which are much more in tune with what we’re after. We want to pay local people who are super passionate about what they do and really want to transmit that passion and knowledge to the discerning tourist. Profits and numbers come second to these kind of guides.

Here are a few websites I found that offer such specialised or alternative tours:

1. Withlocals

withlocals

Withlocals matches up travelers and locals with cooking skills to rival any top chef. Not only will you enjoy home-cooking at its best and get to taste local delicacies but you’ll also have a unique chance to experience the local culture and to get to know the people by sharing a meal in a family home.

2. Anyroad

Anyroad

A worldwide curated marketplace for creative and niche tours. AnyRoad promotes responsible travel as each tour benefits a local non-profit and the local economy.

3. Trip4Real

trip4real

Trip4real is a revolutionary form of travel that offers travelers the most authentic possibility to know Spain through unique activities organized and carried out by local people.

4. Vayable

vayable

Vayable is an online marketplace where people can discover, buy and sell unique travel experiences, including tours, activities and extended.

5. Discover Walks

discover walks

Discover Walks offers free walking tours with young, fun, informative native tour guide every day in London, Paris, Barcelona, Prague and San Francisco.

Do you know of any others?
